Question Action Script vs Shape tween

I am giong to try to create an effect similar to the effect flashmove uses on flashmove.com for the .swf file at the top of the screen. I am going to have my name on top of a black back ground and am going to create an effect of fading each letter in starting with D and then when D fades all the way in I will start to fade in, untill all Letters are fully faded in, and then I will start fading them out. Would it be better for me to make a whole bunch of Key frames and figure out on which frame each mc should begin fading in, or should I let action script do it? Say on the middle frame of the letter D I have a stop. and then on the middle frame of s I have a D.nextframe; code. which wil then fade the J out. Which way would be better to do size wise? I don't care that the action scripting might take me longer, just want to know which would be better for size?

-J.
