Windows 8 Mobiles to finally support traditional softwares finally using WOA
Windows 8 targets ARM's architecture in addition to Intel PCs, and Microsoft has finally detailed how this will work.
Software for traditional x86/64-bit computers will not run on the tablet " a move which has brought criticism from Microsoft's long-term partner Intel. Instead, the slates will run apps downloaded from Microsoft's Windows Store and will be serviced through Windows Update " similar to the architecture behind Windows Phone 7, or Apple's iOS tie-in with its App Store. Microsoft President Steve Sinofsky cautioned that WOA will not support any type of virtualisation or emulation approach, and will not enable existing x86/64 applications to be ported or run. This is because virtualised or emulated software would result in excessive consumption of system resources like battery life and CPU. If you need to run existing x86/64 software, then you will be best serviced with Windows 8 on x86/64. Read More here
