There have been a lot of people asking why the onLoad method doesn't work the way most people think it should. I know this can be quite confusing, so I've decided to post a sticky on the subject. One very good link I always point people to is this one on kirupa's site:
AS1 OOP: Custom Classes with MovieClips It gives a very good indepth explaination as to why onLoad for MovieClips doesn't work the way people believe it should. I also recently ran into this video which is also very good: http://www.flashextensions.com/categ...ideo/index.php It talks about an undocumented method in Flash called the onConstruct method. Supposedly it's been around for a while and is also in Flash 8. This method allows you to know when a movie clip is instantiated whether it be via an attachMovie call, or basically just placed on the timeline. Pretty neato.
