Hi, I am working on a project for myself and my friends so we can keep score of our cricket games (darts) without having to search for pen and paper. I have finished with the graphics and now I need to have my scoring buttons respond like this when clicked:

I have four buttons repeated 28 times on the screen for 4 players and 7 possible targets:

Button names:

0 Hits ( ) (default state)
1 Hits ( \ )
2 Hits ( X )
3 Hits ( O ) (actually an O with an X thru it)

Desired interaction:

Button starts at 0 Hits - first click changes button to 1 Hits - second click changes button to 2 Hits - third click changes button to 3 Hits - and fourth click resets to 0 Hits, etc ad infinitum. (fourth click is for easy correction of mistake clicks)

I am using Flash MX 2004 and have been animating in flash for years, but actionscripting is still new to me as I'm an artist, not a programmer.

I left a couple buttons in their various down states so they're easier to find (default state is invisible). I'm sure the solution is simple - it sounded it when I started out, but now my head hurts trying to figure it out - if anyone has an actionscript for the first button I can do the drudgework of assigning it to the remaining buttons. If I tried to do a different frame for each possible game state I would have 28 to the 4th power number of frames (or something like that), so I'll choose not to do it that way for now ...
