Flash Programmer Needed for Augmented Reality Project

Dear Flash Gurus,

The Medical Media Lab at the National Institute for Medical Informatics (NIMI) (www.imedi.org) is looking for a Flash programmer to help build an innovative augmented reality application.

NIMI's work has been covered by Business 2.0, MSNBC, the Washington Post, Information Week and others. Our projects have been the focus of Harvard Business School case studies and also have been the focus of a case study by Microsoft. Our director was elected Physician of the Year for 2005 by the Microsoft Health Users Group. An Australian filming crew just finished a piece about our work for "Beyond Tomorrow", a sequel to "Beyond 2000" which has been syndicated by the Discovery Channel and others.

We are looking for a talented programmer to join us a project which we believe will not only gain significant media attention (as above) but will also likely change the way medicine is practiced across the nation.

The project will involve real-time interfaces between a Flash application, web camera feeds, medical images and data.

Back-end preparation of data for use by the Flash app may be necessary. Skill in C++, C# or .NET will likely be helpful. Experience pulling data over ODBC connections will also be exceedingly useful.

Ideally, work will need to be performed *on site* at least once or twice a week in Washington D.C. at the Medical Media Lab (located on campus at Washington Hospital Center). As little as 8-16 hours per week can be dedicated to the project (so students can apply too). Expected pay is $30/hour.

Experience with Flash based web conferencing will likely result in the possibility of additional work including projects related to medical robotics.

For all applicants we would like to be provided with links to previous work. Student applications will also be accepted though we would be looking for evidence of substantial extracurricular Flash work!

We look forward to hearing from you!

-Mike
