silverlight -> plugin runs in a sandbox
webworker -> exteranl javascript working for the document run in own threads maybe on seperate processors. Try doing a facial recognition system of walking by people on a pedestrian in realtime in silverlight, javascript + webworkers did that. intrested? -> http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/workers/basics/ But yes the aticle is right that "one right way" penomenon sucks to arguee against. As usual the best solution depends on the task. Thing is html5 has itself fred of a load of boundaries. just imagine the possible framerates if one webworker calculates one svg grafx and anonther the opponent on the screen. and you might have a kickass boxing game. looking right as good as if done in flash or silverlight.
