the diffrence between task and work
what does FM mean to ya guys?
sometimes i wonder why some guys think they may get some cool work for free... i mean this site deals with flash, coding actionscript and lot's of stuff around... we r here to share knowledge and thoughts but we r not here to do someones work for free and we r surely not here because we r the nations fools or? sometimes people asking for fixing something for them really make me angry just because of the way they ask. i mean ok some already offer some cash as reward and that is ok even if it may b worth more but in general this board i thought till now deals with sharing of knowledge and thoughts. what they want is a fool to work for them. the diffrence between an intresting task to discuss in here and work, i would define as follows. a task normally is the abstracted essence of a process which again is just a little part of something big which for the solvers is of no intrest. the intrest in the task mainly is to find a possibility to solve it in theory. therefore u share the essence without boring yar audience with yar actuall project. mainly tasks r described as: initial status, processing part, wanted result and mainly it is the processing part which u need guidiance for. sometimes the task also may b to discuss if in general it would b possible considering any possible way to do something solving it and having the wanted result as output. work instead is bound to a project, there is no abstract form of it. work defines itself in the finished result. mainly a webpage or flashmovie or such stuff. work is not worth sharing it because work u r either able to do on yar own or u need to learn about it or u pay someone for doing it for ya. the intresting thing in a task is the thrill of "am i able to solve this?" the boring part of work is "sigh, yeah i know how to do this, I REALLY KNOW IT BY HEART, all i need to do is... and this crap for all the 10000 pages..." i like discussing task in here because u make friends this way, and i get bored by guys thinking i may b their fool because i know whom better not to deal with. so i would suggest a lot of people first think before they post, their speech or pronounciation may b the diffrence of getting help or not.

Hey Garg,
Your "preaching to the choir" in many ways. Yet, I do think to myself that a project some has posted is in a way a "can I do this thrill". Truthfully, I do tend to ignore the threads that seem like work. That is why I also think that Members get confused about my code. I'll write a short script to show the member a direction or a method of acheiving the wanted effect. |

Hello,
I totally agree with Gargoyle here as so many times .He kinda said it all but i want to add something to make things maybe even more clear. This is a community, a place to share knowledge and to help or be helped to let the knowledge in Flash grow. As Gargoyle already said we make friends this way and that is for me one of the greatest thing about a community. When someone comes to me and tells me i want this and that and also this, i can only conclude that he wants someone else to build it for him. And i'm not a fool and so dont even waste my time on replying to such a thread. When someone comes to me or creates a thread and tells me "i try to achieve this and that and this where should i start?", then i would show him a step to step list. Then he sure will ask how to do step 1 and then i show him some example i make with what i know he can play with to get his things done right. That way he will learn how to create something himself and not just ripp work, use almost un-altered code or let others build it for him. Step 2, 3, etc will go the same. I will have respect for that person, 'cus he is really willing to learn and not just to get a script and use it. Once again Flashmove is a place to learn and share knowledge about Flash, it is not a Flash generating machine! Thats all from me ![]() Erwin |

thnx erwin, again i was not sure if i picked the right words to make myself clear.
anyway it's the thrill that drives us so don't bore us with usual work ok? and dv8 dun worry about yar code. we all just offer thiese tiny pieces, suited for those willing to learn, unsuited to turn them into profit. this is the way we communicate and keep the focus on the task and don't get ourselfes lost in the boring surrounding.

i would like to add on to the list of reminders to members not to post frivolously just becos they have some problem with their project and need a quick answer.
There is usually tons of posts here which you can search. By not posting repeated threads and to reduce us from hammering ![]() these notes again and again... This site is not a free to use and to be taken for granted site. Many of us have sacrificed life if not time to do all the work here. When you post something and someone helps you, it is a virtue for you to try to help back in this forum in return. That's all i ask from our fellow members and dudes who have been to this site. *We will also not try to help those who spam our forums. Peace

I think its a universal annoyance to the responsible members of the flash community when they are treated like technotes or something... I find that more and more I look to answer the questions that 1)don't have obvious answers 2)haven't been asked before here 3)dv8 hasn't already fully answered
![]() I agree with Erwin about the community stuff too... I come here as much to be around people with the same hobby as I do to just answer questions about Flash! Oh, and, it's really not attractive when a thread has a title like "Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp, I can't get it to work". Specifics are the most important thing in getting the readers attention and getting the answer to your question. If we don't understand what the problem is, how are we supposed to give a solution? |
