new to flash, need advice

i want to make some 2d cartoons, and i'm just getting started with the trial of cs4. this isn't a whim thing. i tried flash for the first time back around 2004, with the same basic goal. life got in the way, other interests took over, and i never really got going with it. so i got some free time on my hands recently and grabbed the flash cs4 trial. i understand drawing types (merge/object), symbol types (movie clip/graphic), how the timeline works, frame types, tween types, and probably the majority of the essentials, with the exception of actionscript. btw, the bones and motion tween are pretty cool in flash cs4.

that said, cs4 seems kind of flakey from what i remember back with macromedia flash (think it was mx 2004?). i never did get proficient in flash back then, but i don't remember flash crashing often, tweening inconsistencies, and a lot of other odd things that i'm seeing in cs4.

with my goal of creating 2d cartoons in mind, should i stick with cs4, try to find an old version of flash, or maybe try other software? i just want things to work consistently, i don't want to deal with frequent crashes, and i'd like things to be intuitive as possible. maybe i haven't spent enough time with it yet, but i'm not finding cs4 to meet those requirements.

any advice and tips are much appreciated. btw, it looks like you guys have a nice, active forum here.

Welcome to F.M.

I uses flash all the time and never have it crash, maybe a stronger computer would help.

i do a lot of multitrack audio and a little video editing here and there on this machine with no problems. only flash crashes here out of all my other software, and it doesn't even tax my machine.
