Streming FLV
Hi there, I am new to this forum, and kinda a novice to flash, however I am i need of some serious help before I tear my face of and slap round my monitor!!!
I have a wmv file that I wanted to place in a flash file and run the video from a flash file....swf. I followed procedures of converting the wmv to a flv, and placed the file into flash etc. The file works perfectly when I test the swf locally, however when I upload the file, after pressing the play button, the movie just doesn't start playing. Because the file is so big (flv=16mb) I am trying to stream the movie, so I have followed some guidelines to add some actionscript which basically uses "netConnection". Anyway I am just completely screwed as to why the file works locally but no on the remote server?!?!?! Can someone please help, if you need more info, please ask. Cheers |

Maybe because it is so big, it takes time to load enough before playing when run from a remote location. I can't say for sure. Have you followed any online tutorials on playing flv movies? You might get some insight there.

Yea thats what I thought could be a problem? I couldn't understand why converting a 6 mb wmv would turn into a 16mb flv? I thought it would make it a smaller file? Is it worth converting to like a .mov, then into a .flv? Do you know of any websites that run a little tutorial on playing flv files?? Thanks alot.

Yeah, that is odd. You'd think they'd be at the same size if exported to full quality. Maybe tone down the quality when you convert to flv. See what kind of results you get.

Well strangely enough I did that also, I rendered at flash 8 medium quality, and the video become quite bad quality, and it still was only 9.5mb? So I just could work out the problem? I've had to just embed the wmv into my website for now till I find out how to embed and stream the flv file. I had some thought that maybe when writing the action script I wasn't referencing to the correct source file ext? However the flv was in the same file as th swf, so I wouldn't expect to have to write "http://mydomain.com/bla bla bla (however I tried both this source and just the file name, and still no luck?) Do you have to have a special feature enabled on your server to stream flash??
Thanks for you help so far
